Our special Handpan.World care oil for stainless steel handpans consists of highly refined hydrocarbons and white oils and is therefore free of acids, which can lead to discoloration on stainless steel surfaces. Vegetable oils are acidic and therefore unsuitable for the care of stainless steel! It is not advisable to experiment with coconut, olive or other vegetable oils. Other specialty handpan oils are also often plant-based - these oils are only suitable for nitrided steel .

Background on handpan oil for stainless steel

Care oil is one of the elementary accessories for regular handpan care . Stainless steel is resistant to rusting due to its chemical composition. However, the surface can tarnish and discolour through prolonged exposure to moisture or salts such as our very natural sweat or through contact with acids. This can cause unwanted stains. These only have an optical influence and have no effect on the sound. If you want to keep your handpan in its original condition, we recommend that you clean your instrument regularly with rubbing alcohol and care for it with this stainless steel handpan oil . Of course, the look is also a matter of taste - if stains or discolouration appeal to you, you can experiment with less care. However, the process is more random and uncontrollable. Above all, a modified interface is difficult to undo. It is best to make a conscious decision right at the beginning of your handpan journey, then the routine of handpan care will also be very easy for you. Instructions for handpan cleaning & care with handpan oil in seven steps:

1. Wash your hands before every game. In this way you reduce the involuntary application of harmful substances such as salts and acids to your handpan.
2. Remove dirt, grease, salts and acids from your handpan every 1-2 weeks with a high-percentage rubbing alcohol.
3. After cleaning, apply enough care oil to the clean and dry surface of your handpan and spread it evenly with a microfiber cloth so that the entire handpan is covered with a shiny layer of oil.
4. To remove stains, tarnishing and fingerprints, polish with a microfiber cloth.
5. After oiling, let your handpan rest for about 12 hours so that the oil can adhere and a protective patina develops.
6. If the handpan is still greasy after it has taken effect, simply remove the residue with a microfibre cloth.
7. After each game, wipe with the still oily microfiber cloth to lightly oil the surface and remove salts and acids from your skin.
