Buy Kita Handpan D Celtic Minor / Amara made of stainless steel

Kita Pantam is suitable for both beginners and advanced handpan players. The sophisticated sound balance makes these instruments a special playing experience. The medium-long sustain enables both fast, intense and quiet melodic playing styles.

Each Kita Handpan is made with passion, dedication and perfection. All instruments are made by hand by Nima Taghavi and his team and are worked out down to the smallest detail, both visually and acoustically.

The sound of the Orient is in every KitaPantam. Made in Esfahan, in the heart of Iran, Kita is one of many civil projects of hope and peace in a politically troubled country. Kita is one of the first manufacturers outside of Europe to become part of our Handpan.World network. These instruments not only bring with them their own and special sound spectrum, but also expand the Handpan.World vision: a worldwide, solidarity-based union of the handpan community. We are so grateful to now be able to represent the Orient and its sounds in the Handpan.World cosmos.

Personalized designs & custom-made products:

KitaPantam is extremely creative and experienced in the development unique handpan designs . No other high-quality handpan maker offers such a wide range of unusual finishes. This makes it possible to fulfill special design wishes. You can personalize your Kita handpan according to your style. We offer a large number of fascinating designs that only the Kita team can implement.

We have at least one design in stock for every classic mood. If your desired design is not currently available, you can order it via the Handpan Online Shop As Kita has already prepared almost every mood with nine and ten tone fields, a custom-made product takes about 5 weeks to be delivered to you. For special moods - especially low scales or Extended Handpan Instruments with many additional sound fields and Bottom notes The production time can take up to three months.

Mutant Handpans, Low Scales and Bottom Notes at Kita Pantam:

KitaPantam is one of the few handpan manufacturers worldwide that can produce almost all scales and tunings - even those that are considered particularly demanding, such as mutant handpans and low scales.

Mutant handpans are those that have additional notes between the ding and the tonal circle. These instruments give the player more versatility and flexibility when playing complex melodies.

Extended handpans with bottom notes are instruments with additional sound fields on the bottom. Kita Pantams can attach up to 20 sound fields to a handpan. You can find out which scale can be built with how many sound fields in the respective product.

Low scales, with the fundamental note of the scales B2 to F2, can also be made.

The process of making these special instruments is much more time-consuming and risky than with conventional handpans. Production can therefore take up to three months and is more expensive than conventional tunings.

Kita Handpan made of Ember Steel:

To manufacture the stainless steel instruments, KitaPantam Ayasa uses handpan shells made of stainless steel - a special rust-proof stainless steel alloy . Stainless steel has a particularly resonant and fine sound. The long sustain ensures a strong wealth of overtones and makes the whole instrument sing. This creates a versatile carpet of sound that is particularly inviting for melodic and meditative playing. Stainless steel is characterized by a soft, harmonious sound. The particularly mystical sound lets the handpan player dive into other spheres and can lead to trance-like states . Stainless steel is particularly well suited for sound journeys , sound healing , sound therapy and as an accompaniment to yoga and meditation .

Stainless steel meets all the important criteria for a high-quality handpan sound : sustain, clarity, ceramic sound , workability, stability, rust protection and more. The possibilities for building and playing seem endless. Here's what you should know about stainless steel:

  • Sustain and reverberation : Particularly long-lasting, overtone-rich and room-filling reverberation . Stainless steel is very vibration-intensive , which can lead to the activation of other sound fields. When played particularly quickly and intensively, it can lead to slight cross-talk effects. If you prefer a faster, rhythmic and more intensive playing style, we recommend our handpans made of conventional stainless steel or nitrided steel .
-> Click here for an overview of the Kita Handpans made of nitrided steel

  • Ceramic-like sound : The material creates a ceramic sound. Shoulder tones of the tone fields are less present and more controlled. This allows crystal-clear shoulder tones to be played with sustain on the base note .

  • Rust protection : Like all stainless steel, stainless steel is rust-proof and therefore cannot rust. However, oxidation can occur, especially with stainless steel, which can lead to a slightly spotty appearance in the long term. This can be avoided by regularly caring for it with stainless steel handpan oil .
-> Read our Handpan.World care instructions
-> You can find suitable care products, such as Handpan oil, here

  • Stability: Ember Steel enables very stable tones. Unfortunately, this material is more sensitive and can therefore go out of tune more quickly than other types of stainless steel. The most tuning-stable material is still nitrided steel.

  • Patina & susceptibility to scratches: Stainless steel and other types of stainless steel from Ayasa Instruments are more susceptible to scratches and scrapes than other materials. We recommend: Handle your stainless steel handpan with care .

Diameter: 53 cm
Height: 26.5cm
Weight: approx. 4kg
Material: stainless steel

Tuning: Celtic Minor
Synonym: Amara
Standard tone sequence: D/ ACDEFGAC
Atmosphere: Melancholic - Archaic - Medieval
Mode: Minor - Aeolian
Tone range: Hexatonic

Semitones: 7 -3-2-2-1-2-2-3

Tonal Center: DING

Mood description:

With this timeless selection of tones (Amara) you can easily conjure up sounds that are reminiscent of times gone by with pure fifths and fourths. This instrument might have found its place in spiritual ceremonies in Celtic times. Compared to the full Aeolian mode, the sixth step is missing here, which makes this tuning a little more open. You can play very beautiful harmonies, especially in the upper range. This is one of the most popular tunings in the world of handpans.

Characteristic of Amara/Celtic Minor is the jump from DING to the first note in the interval of a perfect fifth (example DA). This fifth jump immediately opens up the tonal space and gives context to the notes above it. The next note is a minor third above the fifth, which in turn is reminiscent of the natural tone series. From here there are two whole tone steps, a half tone step, two whole tone steps and the jump of the minor third to the highest note of the tuning, which results from the absence of the sixth degree (example D Celtic Minor: note Bb).

This tuning sounds particularly archaic because it allows the play of many pure intervals (fifth, fourth, octave) that were already used in the Middle Ages.

Another special feature arises from the arrangement of the notes: In the example of D Celtic Minor, the notes on the right side form the triad of the fundamental note, in this case D minor (ADFA). On the left side, however, all the notes of the major triad are one note below the fundamental note, i.e. C major (CEGC). When playing harmoniously, the sound impression of major can easily be reproduced. It is not for nothing that this is probably the most common handpan tuning.

Possible tone sequences:

Sequence with 9 notes: D/ ACDEFGAC
Sequence of 10 notes: D/ ACDEFGACD
Sequence with 11 notes: D/ (F) ACDEFGAC D

Sequence with 12 notes: D/ (FG) A CDEFGACD
Sequence with 13 notes: D/ (EFG) ACDEFGACD
14 note sequence: D/ (EFG) ACDEFGACD (E)

-Option 1: D (EF)/ A (Bb) CDEFGACD (EF)
-Option 2: D (EF)/ A (Bb) C (C#) DEFGACD (E)

Sequence of 16 notes:
-Option 1: D (EF)/ A (Bb) CDEFGACD (EFG)

-Option 3: D / (EFG) ACDEFGAC (DEFG)

* Bottom notes are additional tone fields on the bottom of the handpan and are written in round brackets e.g. (DE).

Mutant handpans have additional notes on the upper shell in the second row - between the chorus and the root note. Mutant notes are written in curly brackets, e.g. {DE}.

Suitable moods:

Very suitable for collaborative, improvisational playing:

Also good for composing together:

Nima Taghavi started building handpans in 2015 and founded KitaDrums - now KitaPantam - at the end of the year. Initially, Nima Taghavi built 12-inch steel tongue drums and at the same time explored the art of handpan construction. As the workflow and manufacturing processes developed, the steel tongue drums were replaced by stainless steel instruments and soon tongue pans were added to the portfolio.

At the end of 2017, KitaPantam managed to build the first handpans, or pantams, as they call their instruments. Since then, the range of different instruments has been continually expanded and improved. The maker team, which now has 20 members, is now probably the highest quality manufacturer of handpans from Iran. All instruments are handmade by Nima and his team. KitaPantams are made with passion, dedication and perfection.

We at Handpan.World are grateful for the very close cooperation and have the honor of offering these unique instruments exclusively in Europe.
