Buy Eclipse D Kurd Handpan

You are warmly invited to immerse yourself in the magical sound world of handpans, and at an unbeatable price! The "Eclipse" series was developed to provide an affordable entry into the fascinating world of handpans. Our Eclipse series is perfect for getting started with handpan playing for beginners who don't want to invest €1,800-2,000 right away.

The Eclipse Handpan offers ideal sound quality at a unique price. When developing this handpan, we paid attention to the best possible sound quality and tuning stability in order to guarantee the best possible price-performance ratio.

Why are the Eclipse handpans so cheap to buy?

It has always been important to us to make handpans of appropriate quality affordable for small budgets. This was and still is not an easy undertaking and is simply not possible for less than €1000 if a minimum standard of quality is to be guaranteed. However, since more and more cheap offers of low-quality "handpan drum instruments" under €1000 are flooding the internet, we felt it was our responsibility to finally offer an alternative and, together with one of our manufacturers, KitaPantam, we developed an ideal handpan that was price-performance-friendly stands out. The low price results from optimized processes as well as time and cost-saving factors.

Are you looking for a cheap handpan? Then please read this article:
-> "Buy a handpan cheaply? Why I shouldn't buy a (too) cheap handpan"

It is important to us to say: The affordable Eclipse handpan does not replace a high-quality instrument in the higher price categories. If you want an even finer and more sophisticated sound and want a handpan that is particularly versatile and playable in a variety of ways, you should look at the Handpan.World range in the price range between €1500-2300.
For us, the more expensive the handpan instrument, the higher quality it is.

Eclipse handpans made of nitrided steel:

Nitrided steel is the original material from which handpans are made. It all started with the nitrided handpans. When the first handpan drums came onto the market around the turn of the 2000s, the stainless steel and embersteel handpans that are so popular today did not yet exist. For many years, handpan enthusiasts were interested in nitrided instruments. And not without reason. The fine, penetrating sound of the steel leaves plenty of room for careful listening. The slightly faster decay of the sounds makes the playing more percussive and rhythmic, and also more lively. The sound of nitrated handpans could also be described as earthier and bassier.

Experience the "Eclipse" series and be inspired by the magic of handpans. Handpan World invites you to become part of this harmonious journey.

How do I properly care for my Eclipse handpan?

Handpans made of nitrided steel require regular renewal of the protective layer on their surface. Applying a special care oil for handpans creates a patina that protects your instrument from the effects of salts, acids and moisture. This prevents the formation of rust and discoloration of the material and ensures the long-term preservation of the original surface appearance. When caring for your handpan, use a very soft microfiber cloth to avoid scratches. To ensure good care of your handpan, we recommend one of our handpan care oils or care sets .

Before you apply the handpan oil , you should definitely remove the accumulated dirt such as fats, salts and acids with high-percentage rubbing alcohol. This prevents the care oil from mixing with substances that are harmful to the steel and having a negative effect on the material despite the supposed protective layer. You can get cleaning alcohol such as isopropanol in every drugstore and many supermarkets or you can easily order it here via the Handpan.World online shop.

Neglected care can lead to rust and even deep rust, especially with nitrided handpans. Weekly care of your Kita Handpan is therefore essential.

Important instructions:

  1. Never store your handpan in a bag.

  2. Wash your hands before every game.

  3. Clean and care for your handpan every 1-2 weeks

Diameter: 53cm
Height: 26.5cm
Weight: approx. 4kg
Material: nitrided steel

Mood name : Kurd
Basic tone sequence (8+1): D/ A Bb CDEFGA
Effect : Warm - Mysterious - Dreamy
Tone supply: Heptatonic

Mode : Phrygian (tonal center 1st note) = major
or Aeolian (tonal center: B) = minor

Tonal center: DING or first tone
Semitones: 7 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 2 - 2

Description Handpan Mood Kurd:

The Kurd tuning is, if you will, the natural minor variant of the handpan tunings. Due to its particularly harmonious composition of notes, it is particularly suitable for beginners. With them you can play everything from calm and meditative to melancholic to powerful and happy.

Even though this mood can sound very sentimental, it can certainly create happy sound images. For example, the second and third notes produce a triad in major. Just be aware that the second and third notes are played at the same time. You can of course also use this tension consciously to spice up your playing and make the relaxation have a stronger effect afterwards.

This tuning is one of the first seven-tone tunings to be built and has become very popular through some videos on the Internet.

Origin and music theory of the Kurd tuning of handpans:

Kurd takes the name of the Arabic/Turkish Maqam Kurd. This tone selection also shares the arrangement of the tones with this Maqam if one assumes that the tonal center is on the first tone in the circle. This creates the complete Phrygian mode, which is characterized by a semitone step from the fundamental tone to the second tone of the scale and is responsible for the mysterious sound of the scale.

However, there remains an ambivalence, since the DING is a fifth below the first tone and thus appears like a second tonal center, which allows the mode to change to Aeolian (natural minor). Depending on how you play, you can switch between natural minor and Phrygian sound characteristics. With Kurd you can play anything from calm and meditative to melancholic to powerful and happy.

Kurd shares with other minor variations (cf. Celtic Minor/Integral) the jump from a fifth from the DING to the first tone. From this fifth level, assuming that the tonal center is the THING, one has all the tonal steps of a natural minor scale (Aeolian). What is special about Kurd is the half-tone step (semitone) between the first and second tone. This step is also present in the Maqam Kurd (Arabic or Turkish scale system) of the same name (see Semai Kurd), but also in the Phrygian mode. The Phrygian mode is used in jazz, psychedelic rock, flamenco and fado but also in classical music.

Questions & answers when buying a handpan:

Our handpans are elaborately crafted by hand. Even though our handpans are made with the utmost care and craftsmanship, natural differences in color, slight variations in design and minimal manufacturing marks, such as fine scratches or unevenness on the tone fields and the sound body, may occur.

Visible hammer marks, which are caused by the precise tuning of the instrument by hand, are characteristic features of handmade handpans. They are evidence of authentic craftsmanship and do not represent a quality defect. On the contrary, they emphasize the uniqueness of each instrument.
