Buy Eclipse D Celtic Minor/Amara Handpan
You are cordially invited to immerse yourself in the magical world of sound of handpans, and at an unbeatable price! The "Eclipse" series was developed to provide an affordable introduction to the fascinating world of handpans. Our Eclipse series is perfect for beginners who don't want to invest €1800-2000 straight away.
The Eclipse Handpan offers ideal sound quality at a unique price. When developing this handpan, we paid attention to the best possible sound quality and tuning stability in order to guarantee the best possible price-performance ratio.
Why are the Eclipse Handpans so cheap to buy?
It has always been important to us to make handpans of appropriate quality affordable for those on a tight budget. This was and still is no easy undertaking and simply not possible for less than €1000 if a minimum standard of quality is to be guaranteed. However, as more and more cheap offers of low-quality "handpan drum instruments" under €1000 are flooding the Internet, we felt it was our responsibility to finally offer an alternative and, together with one of our manufacturers, KitaPantam, we have developed an ideal handpan that stands out in terms of its price-performance ratio. The low price is the result of optimized processes as well as time and cost-saving factors.
Are you looking for a cheap handpan? Then read this article:
-> "Buy a cheap handpan? Why I shouldn't buy a (too) cheap handpan"
It is important for us to say: The inexpensive Eclipse Handpan is no substitute for a high-quality instrument in the higher price categories. If you want an even finer and more sophisticated sound and a particularly versatile and varied handpan, you should look at the Handpan.World range in the price range between €1500 and €2300.
Our rule is: the more expensive, the higher the quality of the handpan instrument.
Eclipse Handpans in different tunings:
We want the Eclipse models to suit every musical taste, which is why we offer the Eclipse Handpans in various tunings with the basic notes D, E, F & F#. They are available in both minor and major tunings. We also offer oriental and exotic scales for the Eclipse Handpans.

- Aegean (Lydian major, pentatonic) - Root notes: D
Eclipse Handpans in exotic tunings:
- Hijaz (Oriental, Phrygian Dominant, Heptatonic) - Root notes: D, E & F#
Eclipse handpans made of nitrated steel:
Nitrated steel is the original material from which handpans are made. It all started with nitrated handpans. When the first handpan drums came onto the market around the turn of the millennium, the stainless steel and embersteel handpans that are so popular today did not yet exist. For many years, handpan lovers were interested in nitrated instruments. And not without reason. The fine, penetrating sound of steel leaves plenty of room for careful listening. The slightly faster decay of the sounds makes the playing more percussive and rhythmic, and also more lively. The sound of nitrated handpans could also be described as earthier and more bass-heavy.
Experience the "Eclipse" series and let yourself be inspired by the magic of handpans. Handpan World invites you to become part of this harmonious journey.
How do I properly care for my Eclipse Handpan?
Handpans made of nitrated steel require regular renewal of the protective layer on their surface. Applying a special care oil for handpans creates a patina that protects your instrument from the effects of salts, acids and moisture. This prevents rust and discoloration of the material and ensures that the original surface appearance is preserved for a long time. When caring for your handpan, use a very soft microfiber cloth to avoid scratches. To ensure that your handpan is well cared for, we recommend one of our handpan care oils or care sets .
Before you apply the handpan oil , you should definitely remove any accumulated dirt, such as grease, salts and acids, with a high-percent cleaning alcohol. This will prevent the care oil from mixing with substances that are harmful to the steel and having a negative effect on the material despite the supposed protective layer. You can get cleaning alcohol such as isopropanol in any drugstore and many supermarkets, or you can easily order it here from the Handpan.World online shop.
Neglected care can lead to flying rust and even deep rust formation, especially in the case of nitrated handpans. Weekly care of your Kita handpan is therefore essential.
Important instructions:
-
Never store your handpan in a bag.
-
Wash your hands before each game.
- Clean and care for your handpan every 1-2 weeks
Diameter: 53 cm
Height: 26.5cm
Weight: approx. 4kg
Material: nitrated steel
Tuning: Celtic Minor
Synonym: Amara
Standard tone sequence: D/ ACDEFGAC (as in the video)
Atmosphere: Melancholic - Archaic - Medieval
Mode: Minor - Aeolian
Tone range: Hexatonic
Semitones: 7 -3-2-2-1-2-2-3
Tonal Center: DING
Mood description:
With this timeless selection of tones (Amara) you can easily conjure up sounds that are reminiscent of times gone by with pure fifths and fourths. This instrument might have found its place in spiritual ceremonies in Celtic times. Compared to the full Aeolian mode, the sixth step is missing here, which makes this tuning a little more open. You can play very beautiful harmonies, especially in the upper range. This is one of the most popular tunings in the world of handpans.
Characteristic of Amara/Celtic Minor is the jump from DING to the first note in the interval of a perfect fifth (example DA). This fifth jump immediately opens up the tonal space and gives context to the notes above it. The next note is a minor third above the fifth, which in turn is reminiscent of the natural tone series. From here there are two whole tone steps, a half tone step, two whole tone steps and the jump of the minor third to the highest note of the tuning, which results from the absence of the sixth degree (example D Celtic Minor: note Bb).
This tuning sounds particularly archaic because it allows the playability of many pure intervals (fifth, fourth, octave) that were already used in the Middle Ages.
Another special feature arises from the arrangement of the notes: In the example of D Celtic Minor, the notes on the right side form the triad of the fundamental note, in this case D minor (ADFA). On the left side, however, all the notes of the major triad are one note below the fundamental note, i.e. C major (CEGC). When playing harmoniously, the sound impression of major can easily be reproduced. It is not for nothing that this is probably the most common handpan tuning.
Suitable moods:
Very suitable for collaborative, improvisational playing:
- F Major (Parallel Tuning)
- F Sabye (parallel tuning)
- E Aeolian
- A Celtic Minor / Amara
- D Kurd
- G Ragadesh
Also good for composing together:
- B Celtic Minor / Amara
- C Aegean
- E Celtic Minor
- E Kurd
- C Celtic Minor / Amara
- C Kurd
- G Sabye
